You may be familiar with the musical Hairspray. It's been on Broadway and in the movies.
But you may have never experienced it so intimately at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre in Hudson.
It's the story of Tracy Turnblad and her overprotective mom Edna living in 1960's Baltimore.
Teenager Tracy is portrayed by Show Palace veteran Sara DelBeato.
"You have this young girl who if different maybe from the other kids because of her weight," explains DelBeato, "Along the way she meets some people who are also different."
Tracy's big dream is to showcase her groovy moves on a popular dance show and integrate it too!
Mom Edna is played by Show Palace Artistic Director Matthew McGee.
Yes, Matt is a man.
It takes him 2 hours to get into makeup for every show.
"I have a very strong makeup on right now because cover girl does not cover boy," laughed McGee.
His costumes include a fat suit, multiple wigs and dresses.
Hairspray is at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre in Hudson Through February 26.
