As the primary election approaches, voters will get a chance to learn more about some of the candidates in the high profile U.S. Senate and state Attorney General races.
The three Republican candidates for Florida Attorney General will join Bay News 9's Al Ruechel and Central Florida News 13's Scott Harris for an hour-long special on Sunday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. The program will air on both Bay News 9 and Central Florida News 13.
Jeff Kottkamp, Holly Benson, and Pam Bondi will face each other in the Aug. 24 primary. The winner will face the winner of the Democratic primary between Dan Gelber and Dave Aronberg and also Independent candidate Jim Lewis in the general election in November.
Then the attention will turn to the race for U.S. Senate.
Democratic Senate candidates Jeff Greene and Kendrick Meek will appear together in another Florida Decides special presentation, which will air on Bay News 9 and Central Florida News 13 on Monday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.
Ruechel and Harris will pose questions to the leading Democratic candidates on a variety of topics ranging from offshore oil drilling to jobs to transportation. The winner of that race will face the winner of the Republican primary and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running as an independent.
Both programs will also include Politifact reporter Aaron Sharockman. Sharockman will take a closer look at the claims made by the candidates.
You can participate in the specials by submitting your questions for the candidates by July 31 and taking part in our live iPolls during each program.
Bay News 9 and Central Florida News 13 are the stations to watch for political coverage in Tampa Bay and Orlando. Both stations will have continuous coverage of the August 24 primary election night with crews stationed around the state from Tallahasse to Miami and all points in between.
