- Arrest stems from pain clinic search (July 27)
City leaders in Tampa have plans to beef up laws targeting pain clinics.
An ordinance in place already requires clinic owners to get a special license. Now officials want to add to it.
Tampa police said the new rules are already helping, evidenced by this week's raid on a Dale Mabry Highway pain clinic.
"It gives us some teeth,'' one official said. "It gives us a tool that we can use in combating these pain clinics that are operating outside the law."
On Thursday, the Tampa city council will add two new provisions to the law.
Officials will consider joining up with state and federal guidelines and pain clinics will have to release information on any dealings with local pharmacies.
