To what do you attribute the current oppressive heat wave?
Bay News 9's chief meteorologist Mike Clay said the weather will be hotter than normal, at least for the next couple of days.
"There's been a big upper level high that's been parked in place over the country all summer long and it just happen to park over us and that's why it gets hotter," Clay said.
In many locations, temperatures soared into the upper 90s and the heat index makes it feel like well over 100 degrees.
"It's hot as I've ever known it to be out here," said Carl Howell, who was visiting Busch Gardens Thursday. "I've been here before and it's never been this hot."
Clay said it will be hot and stormy this weekend with heavy thunderstorms around at any time.
"We will be in a reverse summertime pattern with a light westerly flow," Clay said. "This could produce a few morning or midday showers along the coast with the best chance of afternoon thunderstorms inland."
