Man, 72, walking 2,700 miles to 'Move America'

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY --

Anyone who has been on Highway 41 in Hillsborough County recently may have passed 72-year-old Phil Woods.

Woods, who started walking from International Falls, Minn. in April, has already walked more than 2,000 miles. He's walking 2,700 miles to Key West.

The Naples, Florida native isn't just walking for his health; he's walking to move America.

"I want to get people more active both physically and civically," Woods said. "Even more active with each other, treating each other better."

He started the journey to inspire others, but he says he's the one getting the inspiration.

"I hope I inspired them," Woods said. "They certainly inspire me and that keeps me going. The inspiration I get is just wonderful."

Woods said he will walk through it all - the rain, the traffic and the heat just to get his message out.

"I don't know any other way to get people's attention," he said.

And with each step he takes, Wood is hoping to get more people moving to make a difference
