    Hurricane Earl is affecting North Carolina as a weaker but still powerful hurricane.

    Hurricane force winds are extending out 70 miles from the center of the storm.

    At the 11 p.m. advisory, forecasters indicated that Earl had maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. The storm is forecast to continue weakening Friday.

    Elsewhere in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Fiona has turned north and is not expected to affect the U.S. mainland. 

    As of 11 p.m., Fiona is on track to pass near Bermuda either late Friday or early Saturday. The government of Bermuda has issued a tropical storm warning in response.

    Also as of 11 p.m., what was Tropical Storm Gaston is moving west at 5 mph after weakening into a remnant low. Re-development of this storm into a tropical depression is possible.

    Hurricane Earl: Watches and warnings

    A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:

    • Bogue Inlet, N.C., northeastward to the North Carolina-Virginia border, including the Pamlico and Albemarle sounds.
    • Coast of Massachusetts from Westport, around Cape Cod to Hull.

    A Hurricane Watch is in effect for:

    • North of the North Carolina-Virginia border to Cape Henlopen, Del.
    • Nova Scotia, from Medway Harbour to Digby

    A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

    • The coast of Massachusetts from north of Hull to the Merrimack River
    • The coast of Maine from Stonington to Eastport to include Prince Edward Island
    • The coast of Nova Scotia from Ecum Secum northward to Point Tupper
    • From Aulds Cove in Nova Scotia westward to Shediac in New Brunswick
    A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for:  
    • Sandy Hook, N.J., to Woods Hole, Mass., including Block Island and Long Island Sound
    • The coast of Long Island, N.Y., west of Fire Island Inlet and Port Jefferson Harbor
    • North of Hull, Mass., to Eastport, Maine
    • New Brunswick from just west of Fort Lawrence to the U.S./Canada border

    Interests elsewhere in northern New England and southeastern Canada should monitor the progress of Earl.
