Owner of garbage company dies when truck rolls over him

The owner of Pasco County's oldest garbage company was killed Thursday when a truck he was repairing rolled over him.

John David Parker, 68, died just before midnight Thursday when the garbage truck he was working on at the family business rolled forward.

Parker's father started J.D. Parker & Sons more than more than 60 years ago. Parker ran the company, along with his sons, for several years.

The company served more than 10,000 customers in Pasco County.

Ralph Palazzolo, who owns STR Scrap Metal, had done business with Parker for years.

"I've been knowing him throughout the years," he said. "Very nice fellow, good businessman, always everybody spoke good about him."
