A family in Riverview will be spending their Labor Day weekend cleaning up after a fire damaged their home early Saturday morning.
"We just had the house insulated a week and a half ago," James Headrick said, as he assessed the damage to his home.
All of the insulation Headrick and his family had installed is now gutted and exposed. It all had to be removed after their home caught fire early Saturday morning.
"It was sickening," he said."I've only been here three months."
"The right side of the house just blew out into flames," Charlie Jonathan said, who lives in the home.
The fire ripped through the entire right side of the home, ruining clothes and collectibles. The family says they didn't want to deal with this fire, especially on a holiday weekend.
"Labor Day weekend, this is not what you want to wake up to," Jason Headrick said.
Fire investigators say a light fixture in the bathroom caused the fire.
"The fixture is not rated for insulation to be put on it according to the Fire Marshal," James Headrick said. "It got overheated and you can see where the rafters burned through."
As the family tries to come to terms with what happened, they say the next step is to find a way to erase their Labor Day misfortune.
"It's not one I'm going to chalk up to keep in my memory," James Headrick said.
