Owners of Hubbard's Marina file for bankruptcy protection

The Florida Fisherman was seized in August over debts. It has since been returned to the marina.

A long-time Madeira Beach boat company has filed for bankruptcy protection.

According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, the owners of Hubbard's Marina hope the bankruptcy protection helps them rebuild.

The bankruptcy filing is the latest in a series of financial problems for the marina. The situation had become so bad over the summer that a double-decker sea fishing boat was seized and later returned.

Owners said the oil spill is to blame for its financial trouble. The company had filed a claim with BP in an attempt to recover lost money.
