Largo Pirates victim of vandalism, theft

Last Updated:

Their group was returning from a charity event this past weekend when one member noticed the broken windows.

Someone broke into two Pirate Parade floats belonging to the Krewe of Santa Margarita and stole four black powder cannons, ripped items off the wall and caused other damage.

The parade boats are kept at a Largo storage facility. Neighbors told police they saw two teens climbing a fence right before the crime occurred, but Largo police have not released any suspect information.

"It's kind of a punch in the gut, knowing that we do so much in the community to come and find this," Krewe director Jeff DiPolito said. "But I'm sure the kids aren't aware of what we do in the community."

The Krewe is a non-profit group that runs events to raise money for children.

There is a reward leading to the arrest of those responsible for the crime. If you have information, call Largo police at 727-587-6730.
