Latest from Legoland
Legoland Florida is about to undergo a big expansion.
On Tuesday morning, the theme park unveiled new details about its upcoming water park, which is set to open later this year.
The property will soon include the former Cypress Gardens' water park, Splash Island, and will be the biggest Legoland water park planned, surpassing the one in California.
"Really what we are doing is coming in and adding that wonderful layer of Lego to all of the elements," Legoland Florida spokeswoman Jackie Wallace said.
There are six different areas of the park, including the Build-a-Raft lazy river, which features floating bricks, which children will use to construct their own rafts.
"You actually get to build what your raft will look like in Build-a-Raft," Wallace said.
Another attraction will become the Joker Soaker, with the current tiki head being replaced by a joker.
Staying put will be two of the old water park's extreme rides: the double-slide Twin Towers and the tallest body slide, Splash Out.
At the front of the park will be a Duplo Splash Safari Village for the smallest children, as well an Imagination Station.
"You get to build a dam or bridge out of Lego bricks to see if it holds up to the power of water," Wallace said.
The park will also feature more lifeguards than standard water parks because the park's target audience is smaller children.
Tentative plans are in place to open the park in May.
It's only been three months since the grand opening of Legoland Florida, but general manager Adrian Jones said that because the park has exceeded their goals in sales, they are starting construction on the water park sooner than they anticipated.
