One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning.

The crash occurred around 10:03 a.m. on US Highway 98 South and Hancock Avenue in the area of Highland City.

The two vehicles involved were a Ford Mustang and an Acura SUV.

The driver of the Mustang, 41-year-old Stacy Leigh Dewey, was killed.

The driver of the SUV, 27-year-old Jeny Idiculla, was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says Idiculla was traveling north on US Hwy 98, approaching Hancock Avenue, when for unknown reasons, she lost control of her SUV.

The SUV hit the Mustang, which was traveling southbound on US Highway 98, rotated across both southbound lanes, and ended up in the yard of a home.

Dewey’s Mustang rotated and spun several times before coming to rest facing east on the west shoulder of the roadway, deputies say.

Dewey died at the scene. Her 17-year-old son, a passenger, was able to crawl out of the back window of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

The roadway was closed until 3:30 p.m.
