Melted lights and charred rubble remain after a fire tore through Gwendolyn Adam's kitchen, but it could have been much worse if it wasn't for 16-year-old William Sharpe.
The children inside his neighbors' apartment were able to make it out and scream for help after food on the kitchen stove caught fire.
The kitchen may be a loss, but the rest of the house still stands after Sharpe burst into the home to the shouts of, "Save my dog! Save my dog!"
"We opened up the door and the whole kitchen was on fire and they were all screaming," Sharpe recounted after the harrowing ordeal.
The children may have been out, but 1-year-old Joey -- the family dog -- was trapped inside, with no way out.
"I didn’t think twice," the 16-year-old said. "I was just like, get the dog, and put the fire out."
Sharpe said when he got inside the apartment and realized what he was dealing with, his first thought was to come back outside, grab a fire extinguisher and save the dog.
The children that were in the apartment said they tried to pull a fire alarm, but it didn't go off.
"I felt like a man, I felt like a real man."
