The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had to get their roster down to 75 players on Tuesday and that meant cuts for some players.  The Bucs released three players including running back Derrick Ward.  Other players cut include wide receiver Terrance Nunn and linebacker Jon Alston.  The Bucs will have another round of cuts when they have to get the roster down to the NFL required 53-man roster.

The Bucs also got in one final practice before their last preseason game against the Houston Texans.  That game kicks off Thursday night at 8 p.m. in Houston.

Here's the official release from the team:

RB WARD AND WR NUNN RELEASED; LB ALSTON PLACED ON INJURED RESERVE

The Buccaneers announced today that they have released RB Derrick Ward and WR Terrence Nunn. In addition, LB Jon Alston has been placed on Injured Reserve.

Ward was signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2009 by the Buccaneers after playing five seasons with the N.Y. Giants. Last year he played in 14 games, starting one for Tampa Bay, and rushed for 409 yards and one touchdown on 114 carries. He also added 20 receptions for 150 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Ward originally entered the league as a seventh-round selection (235th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft by the N.Y. Jets.

Nunn joined the Buccaneers during the 2009 season on November 24, 2009 but was inactive for the remaining six games of the regular season. He originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots on May 11, 2009.

Alston signed with the team on March 12, 2010 as a free agent after spending the past three seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He originally entered the league as a third-round pick (77th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.
