Boy, was I ever wrong. I forgot the college football camps are still open for recruiting business.
So I didn’t figure that another solid week or two of camps would lead to more evaluations, even more offers and another bunch of announced commitments.
Even as we blog, the numbers seem to go up--five over the past 72 hours, with the big hits belonging to Ole Miss of the Southeastern Conference and the position of linebacker.
Three linebackers gave their pledges: Shaun Ward and Kent Turene of Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson and Serderius Bryant of Sanford Seminole. Ward and Turene are both 225 pounders who picked Texas A&M and Southern Cal, respectively. Ward de-committed from Maryland.
Bryant is the small-in-stature, big-in-hitting 5'9" tackling dynamo who reminds Central Floridians of Buster Davis when he was cracking helmets for FSU and the NFL. He becomes Seminole County’s third to commit and the 25th from Bright House Sports Network’s extended I-4 corridor for the Class of 2011.
Ole Miss got a quiet commitment from Bryant a month ago, but he said he would not go public until he visited the campus. He did over the holiday, and the rest is history. One of the biggest Florida-bred hauls for the Rebels and one of the most talented since running back Dexter McCluster picked the SEC team.
Ole Miss also got the pledge from long-time friends, co-defensive backs and high school teammates Gerod Holliman and Andrew Johnson. Holliman is a nationally-coveted safety and Johnson a corner. Both are from Miami Southridge’s strong program and both stand slightly taller than 6-foot..
To recap the latest:
LB Shaun Ward, 6-1/225 Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson, decommited from Maryland, pledged to Texas A&M
LB Serdarius Bryant, 5-98/210, Sanford Seminole to Ole Miss
DB Gerod Holliman, 6-1/185, Miami Southridge to Ole Miss
DB Andrew Johnson, 6-0/175, Miami Southridge to Ole Miss
LB Kent Turene, 6-1/225, Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson to Southern Cal
