Earlier this week, we presented the five reasons why UCF will win Conference USA this year.
Knights senior Bruce Miller was one of those reasons, and from the looks of things at C-USA media day earlier this week, the defensive end has the attention of everyone in the league.
The Canton, GA native was voted as the preseason pick for the 2010 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, an award which he also won last year.
Miller is projected to be around a third round pick in next year’s NFL Draft, but he’s not far from becoming the state of Florida’s all-time sack master.
Miller has 27 sacks for his career—12.5 shy of the Florida collegiate record of 39.5, held by former University of Miami great Daniel Stubbs. In fact, the first five players on the list, including Seminole legend Peter Boulware, were first round NFL draft picks.
Miller is also a playmaker, which Knights fans can point to a game last November as the turning point to what became a successful season.
Down 20-14 late in the game to Marshall, Miller forced Thundering Herd QB Brian Anderson to fumble. UCF ended up scoring the game-winning touchdown with 23 seconds to play, spurring the Knights on to a 4-1 finish and a berth in the St. Petersburg Bowl.
If Miller lives up to expectations in 2010, the Knights should as well.
