Eight Jesuit High School student athletes made their commitments for college today. Seven baseball players, including the nation's number one prospect Lance McCullers, signed their national letters of intent. Swimmer Chris Swanson also signed his letter of intent to the University of Pennsylvania.
Joey Altieri | Baseball | USF | C/1B
One of two players to sign with USF … Is a three-year letterwinner for the Tigers … As a junior, Altieri hit .309 with 22 runs, 25 hits – including five doubles and three home runs – and had 20 runs batted in … Post’s a 3.6 grade point average and his SAT score places him in the top 13 percent of the nation.
Max Beermann | Baseball | Villanova University | 1B/RHP
Comes into his senior season as a three-year letterwinner at Jesuit … Was tabbed All-Hillsborough County honorable mention as a junior … Hit .291 as a junior with 17 runs, 23 hits – including five double and eight home runs – in addition to 30 runs batted in … On the mound, Beermann turned in a 4-0 record with a 1.94 earned run average in 18 innings pitched … He also logged 29 strike outs … His brother pitches at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. … Has a 3.5 grade point average.
Anthony Hamlin | Baseball | Marist College | 1B
Is a two-year letterwinner for Jesuit entering 2012 … Had three at bats and one hit … His father Marc played football at Marist (1984-88) … Has a 3.56 grade point average and his ACT composite score places him among the top 20 percent in the nation … Has logged over 300 hours of community service to date.
Vincent Leto | Baseball | USF | OF
Joins Joey Altieri as one of two players signing with USF … Has earned three letters as a member of the Jesuit baseball team entering the 2012 campaign … Hit .257 with eight runs, six runs batted in, and one home run as a junior … Has a 3.8 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Lance McCullers | Baseball | University of Florida | SS/RHP
Is a three year letterwinner for the Tigers coming into 2012 … Was named the 2011 Jackie Robinson Award winner as the Perfect Game National Player of the Year … Played in the Perfect Game All-America Classic presented by Rawlings at PETCO Park in San Diego that same weekend … Rated as the No. 2 player in the country by the Perfect Game … Was named a Louisville Slugger All-American and a first team All-Hillsborough County selection – his second consecutive – as a junior … In addition, McCullers was named Suncoast Pitcher of the year by the St. Petersburg Times … During that junior campaign, McCullers posted a 5-3 record with a 2.02 earned run average, and struck out 79 in 52 innings … He was also impressive at the plate hitting .422 with 38 hits, 46 runs, 24 runs batted in, 10 doubles and seven home runs … He also set the Jesuit record for most walks as a junior with 34 a year after accomplishing the same feat as a sophomore with 31 … Was named the Max Preps National Freshman of the Year … Academically, McCullers’ SAT scores ranks him in the top 20 percent in the nation.
Conor O’Brien | Baseball | North Carolina State University | RHP\OF
Comes into his senior year as a three-year letterwinner … Was named All-Hillsborough County honorable mention as a junior … Posted a 5-0-1 record, in 2011, with a 2.71 earned run average in 41.1 innings pitched … Also logged 45 strikeouts on the year … Offensively, O’Brien hit .245 with 15 runs, 17 hits – including seven doubles, two triples and two home runs – to go along with 14 runs batted in … Has a 3.4 grade point average.
Nolan Schultz | Baseball | Trinity College | C/3B
Is a three-year letterwinner entering his senior season … Was named second team All-Hillsborough County as a junior after hitting .431 with 47 hits and 40 runs batted in … Had nine doubles, three triples and six home runs, in addition to 30 runs scored …His SAT scores put him in the top 15 percent in the nation … Has a 3.3 grade point average.
Chris Swanson | Swimming | University of Pennsylvania
Has been a member of the Jesuit varsity swimming team for all four years of his scholastic career … Qualified in 2011 for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials … Is a two-time USA Swimming Academic All-American (2010, 2011) … Was a major factor in helping to lead Jesuit to its recent District title winning the 200 IM, 500 Free, and was a member of the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay … As a junior, Swanson was named the St. Petersburg Times Swimmer of the year, earned the Hicks Award as the Outstanding Male Swimmer of the year and was a first team All-Hillsborough County selection by the Tampa Tribune … Was also tabbed a second team All-Hillsborough County selection in both 2008 and 2009 … In the classroom, Swanson is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and is on the Executive Board … Boast’s a stellar 4.26 grade point average which places him in the top two percent of his class … In addition, his ACT composite scores put him in the top three percent of the nation.
