Derek Jeter kicks off his 2012 charity event

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter hosted a launch party at the Hard Rock Cafe Wednesday night for his Turn 2 Foundation.

The event kicked off his 9th annual celebrity golf classic in the Bay area. The golf tournament takes place today and Friday at Avila Golf & Country Club in Tampa.

All of the proceeds go to his foundation that helps keep children in school and following productive, healthy lifestyles.

Jeter said the foundation is one of the perks of his celebrity.

"If you have that platform, I think you should take advantage of it,'' said Jeter, who lives in Tampa during the off-season. "I've been able to do that, my family has been able to do that, and a lot of pro athletes and entertainers. It makes you feel good when you have the opportunity to help and you hear some of the stories.

"Some of these parents thanking us for the things we do. It makes us all proud as a family."
