Capt. Charlie Harris in Homosassa reports redfish action is strong.

Harris has been catching twenty or more redfish on his ½ day trips using cut mullet on the incoming tide off Chassowitksa Point.

Bull sharks have been a real problem the last two weeks. Once the bull sharks attack the redfish school the fishing is over in that area.

MacRae's Bait House, a Homosassa institution, will be torn down this week. The original bait house, built in 1917, will be replaced by a new and bigger facility.

Red grouper are biting real well in 50 feet of water off Bayport reports Capt. Jim Bradley. Bradley says in all the years he has been fishing the Bayport area, he has never seen as many red grouper.

Cut mullet hunks and mullet heads have been the best bait. Inshore fishing off Weeki Wachee has been producing trout, mackerel and bluefish.

Inshore grouper has been the target for Capt. Billy Miller. Fishing the close in Gulf rocks, Miller has been scoring well with keeper grouper, mangrove snapper and Key West grunts. Spanish mackerel and small kingfish are tearing up free lined white baits on the same rocks. Snook fishing has been good inside of Passa Grille and the bars leading into Tampa Bay.

Capt. Rick Gross, in Anna Maria, has been targeting Tampa Bay and Gulf artificial reefs and wrecks and limiting out on mangrove snapper up to 5 pounds. Also in the catch are small grouper, goliath grouper, mackerel and small kings.

Gross suggests lightening up terminal gear to fool the mangos. #4 hooks, 20 pound fluorocarbon leaders and light weights will get more bites. Earlier in the week Gross had a 35 inch snook caught on big white bait in the Long Bar area of Sarasota Bay.
