Bowl games are not the only reward the post season brings to NCAA football. Add recognition in the form of all-star teams or all-star games.
One of the teams selected by Rivals.com was all-conference freshman. The I-4 corridor fared well in that selection process.
Three members of USF squad were named to the Big East's freshman team - quarterback B.J. Daniel (Tallahassee Lincoln), offensive lineman Mark Popek (Plant City) and cornerback Keyvon Webster (Miami Pace). Syracuse linebacker E.J. Carter (Orlando Dr. Phillips) also was honored.
UCF DB Josh Roberson (Deerfield Beach) was picked for the Conference USA team. Purdue running back El-Terak McBurse (Winter Springs) was named to the Big 10 squad as a kick return specialist.
A pair of Tampa products were honored by the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference respectively. Georgia's Orson Charles (Tampa Plant) was named tight end, joining Mississippi State DB Cory Broomfield (Palm Bay Bayside) and Alabama running back Trent Richardson (Pensacola Escambia). Georgia Tech offensive tackle Phil Smith (Tampa Jesuit) was named to the ACC group along with Duke receiver Connor Vernon (Miami Gulliver Prep) and Clemson QB Kyle Parker (Fruit Cove Bartram Trail). FSU's Greg Reid made the squad as both a kick returner and defensive back.
A pair of UCF commitments were recognized for their play. DB Woodley Cadet of Seminole Ridge in Loxahatchee was named to an all-county team and DE Quentin Brown of Tucker was named to the North team for the Georgia North-South all-star game. Brown is from the same school that sent freshman running back Jonathan Davis to UCF.
