Bay News 9's County-by-County coverage means complete coverage of the news throughout the Bay area. It means reporters who live in the counties they cover. It also means Bay News 9 will tell you about stories happening in your community -- stories the other stations just don't get.
In Pasco County, Bay News 9's Michelle Kay reports on issues that affect residents every day.
Before joining Bay News 9 in March of 2002, Michelle was a reporter and fill-in weather anchor at WEYI-TV, the NBC affiliate in Flint, Mich. Her live reports on the Clara Barton Nursing Home explosion in November of 1999 earned her station an Associated Press award for "Best Hard News."
Michelle has had anchoring and reporting jobs in Lansing, Marquette and Alpena and worked as a writer for ABC affiliate WXYZ in Detroit. In her nine years in Michigan, Michelle covered many stories that captured national headlines, including a fatal shooting at Buell Elementary School in Genesee County, a meningitis/meningiococcemia scare at Michigan State University, and Michigan's coldest winter on record. Now she's happy to be living and working in the Sunshine State at Bay News 9.
Michelle got her start in television as a studio camera operator at WVIT-NBC30 in West Hartford, Conn., while finishing her degree in journalism from the University of Connecticut.
On her days off, Michelle keeps busy by swimming, running, working out or reading. She is also intensely fascinated with cars... from the classics of the '60s and '70s to the concept models the car companies unveil at international auto shows.
