A native of southern Louisiana, Virginia Johnson was born in Lafayette. She grew up in Devil's Swamp in Thibodaux with her large Cajun family.
Thanks to her eight brothers, she is desensitized to all forms of swamp creatures -- from alligators to nutria to water moccasins. Her two sisters are as well. It's been good training for her life in Florida.
Virginia has been working as a journalist in Tampa since 2002, and she is thrilled to be an On The Town reporter for Bay News 9 and Tampa Bay on Demand.
Virginia studied international history and political science at St. Joseph's College in Indiana. She received a master's degree in international business from Loyola University. Ironically, that's when she discovered her love of journalism, while interviewing people in Malaysia for her final paper.
Virginia finished her degree, quit her job, became a journalist and got a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. Since then she has worked as a reporter and anchor in West Lafayette and South Bend, Indiana.
She resides in Tampa with two dogs, two birds, and is always looking for cool things to do in the Bay area.
At Bright House Networks, we prefer to keep things simple.
