Republican Karen Saull said Tuesday she is ending her bid for U.S. Senate, a newspaper reported.
Saull, the wife of prominent Vero Beach businessman Jeffrey Saull, filed papers to run in May but did little public campaigning.
"I have no official statement yet, but I am quitting," Saull said in a telephone interview with the Vero Beach Press Journal.
Her announcement came after a story in Tuesday's Press Journal in which prominent Republicans said they knew little about her.
"The Republican Party has closed me out," Saull wrote in an e-mail to the newspaper. "I guess I am not a member of their "boys' club.' Obviously it seems they have a problem with a woman's voice being heard."
Saull must send a signed and notarized request to the state Division of Elections to be removed from the Aug. 31 primary ballot, spokeswoman Jenny Nash said.
The crowded GOP field still has seven candidates. There are four candidates running in the Democratic primary. To see a complete list of all the candidates just click here.
