Lower bail denied for Sarasota man

A Sarasota judge won't lower the bail from $500,000 to $20,000 for a local man accused of driving his car toward U.S. Representative Katherine Harris.
The judge said he was troubled by the accusations against 46-year-old registered Democrat Barry Seltzer.

Seltzer's attorney argued the bail should be lower, since his client doesn't have any prior convictions.

Police arrested Seltzer Wednesday, a day after he swerved toward Harris and her supporters. He's charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Seltzer told police he swerved toward the Republican Congresswoman and her supporters last Tuesday because they were impeding traffic.
