Minors won't be able to stay in Ybor City as late as before. |
Minors will soon no longer be welcome on Ybor City's streets on certain nights of the week.
The Tampa City Council approved a weekend curfew Thursday. The rule bans anyone under age 18 from being in Ybor from 11 p.m.-4 a.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Exemptions would be allowed for those traveling to and from work or attending a supervised church or school function.
Violators will first receive a warning, and repeat offenders could be charged with trespassing or go to jail. Parents of violators could be fined up to $500 or jailed up to 60 days.
Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio asked for the curfew after business owners and police complained about teenagers causing trouble in Ybor late at night.
The curfew goes into effect on December 1.
