Probation officers of lead Deltona suspect fired
Monday, August 9, 2004
State leaders fired four probation officers Monday who were responsible for keeping tabs on the lead suspect in the Deltona mass murder case.
The officers were supposed to ask a judge for an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Troy Victorino July 30, a day after investigators arrested him on a battery charge.
However, corrections leaders say the paperwork wasn't filed until last Friday, hours after the fatal attack.
Victorino is accused of leading the stabbing and beating attack, in which six people were killed inside a Deltona home. The motive appears to be the loss of his video game system and some clothes.
Victorino, Robert Cannon, Michael Salas and Jerone Hunter all made first their appearances Monday in a Deltona courtroom. They were all denied bond and appointed public defenders.

Victorino is the lead suspect in the case. |
Cannon, along with Salas and Hunter, are 18 years old and considered by investigators to be willing participants in the murders.
All four suspects are charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary. They face life in prison or possibly the death penalty.
The bodies of the six victims were discovered Friday morning after one of the victims didn't show up for work.
