Keeping children safe at school
Tuesday, July 11, 2006
Five former Citrus County School District employees are barred from the county's campuses after a background check revealed past felony convictions.
Eight others are awaiting further review in an effort to keep children safer at school.
The firings follow a move by district officials to come up with a list of crimes of "moral turpitude".
Those crimes keep contracted workers from schools and include indecent exposure, lewd or lascivious conduct, prostitution and sexual misconduct with a minor or the disabled.
The actions are aimed at meeting the intent of the
Jessica Lunsford Act.
Lunsford was abducted from her home, raped and murdered in Homosassa in February.
