The truck crashed into a Tampa electrical substation Tuesday morning. |
Some Tampa residents were without power Tuesday morning after the driver of a furniture truck fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into a Tampa Electric Company (TECO) substation.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver was traveling in the southbound lane on I-275 when the incident happened. FHP said when the driver hit the substation, the truck hit a breaker.
Almost 2,000 residents in the area lost power. TECO crew members rerouted power from two nearby stations to restore electricity to residents.
Crew members and a tow truck company removed the truck. More than $1 million in damage is estimated.
The driver of the truck was not injured, but he is being charged with careless driving.
