Hearing in Couey case

Couey has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

There was a status conference Wednesday in the John Couey case.

The attorneys asked the court to set a cutoff date to exchange the lists of witnesses, and to schedule the date for pretrial motions to be filed.

Couey is accused of kidnapping 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford from her Homosassa home in February, then raping and murdering her. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 31.
