A bike ride ended in tragedy for a Brooksville teenager Saturday.

A Ford van hit 18-year-old Stephanie Arthur from behind on WPA Road, propelling her about 100 feet. She died shortly afterward at St. Joseph's Hospital. The teen's mother, 37-year-old Peggy Arthur, was walking beside her and was slightly injured.

Authorities say Stephanie Arthur was not wearing a helmet. Charges are pending against the driver, 53-year-old Boyce E. Helms of Brooksville, who authorities say had alcohol on his breath. They are awaiting the results of a blood alcohol level test.
