Police report new developments in the search for a missing Sarasota girl.
The Sarasota Sheriff's Department said Mayra Sandoval called her parents Monday night and said she was safe. Detectives are working with the FBI and immigration authorities because they think the 12-year-old Sandoval is in Mexico in the company of a man in his 20s.
She was last seen getting off the bus in front of Booker Middle School a week ago. Detectives said a surveillance video from a gas station last week did not show Sandoval.
Detectives do not believe Sandoval was abducted. They are exploring criminal charges against the male subject.
If anyone has any information about Sandoval, contact Detective Ralph Ortiz at (941) 316-1201 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (941) 366-8477.
