A tug boat captain has been charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated.

The Coast Guard is reviewing an incident by the Bay Pier at Fort DeSoto Park Saturday morning. A marine unit deputy arrested 46-year-old Thomas Earl Scott of Hampton, Va.

Scott works for Norfolk Tug, which is currently working on a dredging project off Egmont Key. Deputies said Scott was docking at the pier when he hit the structure.

The damage is estimated at $3,000.

Two other people were on board, but no one was injured.
