The robbery took place at this emergency room in Plant City. |
Plant City police are investigating after a woman was robbed in an emergency room at South Florida Baptist Hospital.
The victim, who doesn't want to be identified, said she went to the emergency room because she was having stomach pain.
"I was sitting there and a man comes through wearing a jacket with a hood over his face," the victim said. "And he stopped in front, shoved me in the chest and snatched my purse from me."
The victim said she chased after him, but he then struck her in the head. Then some good Samaritans got involved and the man dropped the purse.
"He ran to the end of the street and stopped and showed us the gun," the victim said.
Surveillance tape captured the crime, but police say even with the tape, they need help from the public.
"This crime is solvable," said Cpt. Darrell Wilson of the Plant City Police Department. "We're hoping any witnesses that were at the scene that have any information will please give us a call."
Anyone with information is asked to call the Plant City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at (813) 757-9200.
The victim will recover, but is still in disbelief that she came out of the hospital with more injuries than she went in with.
