Mother killed by hospital mistake
Thursday, June 8, 2006
A medical mistake is to blame for the death of a young Bay area mother.
It started when 18-year-old Elisha Bryant went to South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City in May with early contractions at 27 weeks. Hospital administrators said a nurse gave Bryant magnesium sulfate to slow down her contractions. But the nurse gave her too much and Bryant later died on May 26.
Her baby is in neonatal intensive care at another hospital.
South Florida Baptist is still investigating. The nurse is on administrative leave.
