Tate is being held without bond.

A 2-year-old Hillsborough County rape victim has died.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the girl died at the hospital Thursday afternoon as a result of her injuries.

Eric James Tate, 18, of Lutz has been charged with capital sexual battery. Other charges are pending.

Tate has a relationship with the child's mother and babysat for the child.

Deputies said the girl was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for unexplained injuries on Tuesday. Doctors said the girl was a victim of a severe sexual assault.

Tate is also facing drug charges after deputies found drugs and drug paraphernalia inside his home after his arrest on Wednesday. He is being held without bond in the Orient Road Jail.
