Monday marked eight years to the day
Amanda Brown disappeared from her family's Tampa home.
She was found two days later, after being murdered by a neighbor.
Her parents, Roy and Sylvia, were in Tallahassee Monday for Missing Children's Day.
Roy Brown said parents can't be blamed for what happened to their children.
"You can't blame none of these parents for not watching their kid, because it's not like that," Brown said. "We've got to get together and we've got to really do something."
Florida Gov. Jeb Bush also attended the ceremony.
"We're a state where, people moving in, people moving out, a lot of transient population, and we have these tragedies unfold," Bush said. "It just breaks my heart to even think that this would be something that would take place in our state."
