ST. PETERSBURG (Bay News 9) -- Pinellas County property appraiser Jim Smith will not seek re-election.
According to one of Smith's aides, the embattled property appraiser will not run for another term next year. Smith came under fire after a controversial land deal in June.
Smith sold a piece of property in the East Lake area near Tarpon Springs to the county for $225,000. That was almost four times the value Smith's own office had assessed it.
Two county administrators lost their jobs over the scandal.
Smith, 67, was first elected property appraiser in 1988. He ran unchallenged three times since then.
