Car smashes into building in fatal accident

ST. PETERSBURG (Bay News 9) -- One person was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident at a busy Pinellas County intersection.

The impact of the 9 a.m. crash at 49th Street N. and 38th Avenue N. sent a Honda Civic crashing into a nearby building. The other vehicle was a Dodge pickup truck.

One person in the Honda died at the scene while another person in that vehicle was transported to Bayfront Medical Center. The Honda crashed into the building where Brown Town Tanning is located.

Also, 49th Street was shut down between 38th and 36th Avenue for about two hours while officials investigated the crash. The driver of the Dodge pickup also was taken to the hospital.

Also, the tanning salon was closed at the time of the crash.
