Michael Graham was rescued by the Coast Guard after being stranded for 54 hours in the gulf.

A boater stranded in the Gulf of Mexico for more than two days was rescued Thursday night.

Michael Graham was rescued after being spotted by a casino cruise ship about 10 miles off the coast of St. Pete Beach.

The Coast Guard, which assisted in the rescue, said the 49-year-old Graham became stranded when a wave overturned his kayak Tuesday morning.

Graham said he lost his oars and was forced to try to maneuver with his arms and hands.

More Information

Coast Guard officials said Graham was weak with signs of hypothermia, a slight sunburn, and dehydration. He was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg at about 10 p.m. Thursday.

"I'm just sore,'' Graham said, as he was transported to the hospital. "I got a lot of cuts and bruises, abrasions, but I should be okay."
