tree in house
Friday's storms knocked this tree into a home in Tampa.
Friday's rains were a much-needed relief from the drought conditions that have plagued the area.

But the thunderstorms that came through the Bay area did cause some damage as the rains caused a tree to fall on to a home in the Town 'n Country neighborhood in Tampa. No one was injured.

One neighbor said she she saw what looked to be a funnel cloud just before the tree fell on the home on Cresthill Drive Friday afternoon.

"I went to my room to shut off the computer and when I did, that's when I saw the roots falling, like heading towards his house and then there was a big loud boom,'' said neighbor Stephanie Canon. "It was foggy, you couldn't see anything out the window, it was pure white. Pure white."

Bay News 9 meteorologists said there were wind gusts up to 50 mph near that area but there were no reports of tornadoes.

Trees also were knocked down in a Land O' Lakes neighborhood and hail was reported in Clearwater and Holmes Beach.
