BRANDON (Bay News 9) -- The woman who drove her car into a pond Thursday afternoon has died.
The accident happened at the intersection of Gornto Lake Rd. and Providence Lake Blvd. in Brandon.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said 46-year-old Sheila Creel ran a stop sign and collided with a Ford Expedition that was traveling north on Gornto Lakes Road.
The impact of the crash sent Creel's car into a pond.
The intersection was shut down while fire fighters rescued Creel from her red Mazda. According to officials, she died late Thursday night.
The car was completely submerged. It took fire fighters 11 minutes to get her out.
The driver of the second car had only minor injuries.
One of the fire fighters who jumped in the water sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Brandon Hospital.
