PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- While it's difficult to find World Series tickets, it's not impossible.
A number of ticket holders are willing to sell their tickets -- for the right price. But fans that are desperate to see the Rays play don't seem to mind the high prices.
Chuck Faulkner, of Tampa, says a day ago he didn't think he had a chance of attending the first World Series game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies, but a trip to St. Petersburg Wednesday changed that.
"I'm 61 years old and this is the only World Series I've ever gone to and maybe the last, but I'm going," Faulkner said.
Faulkner purchased three tickets from a man selling tickets outside a gas station across the street from Tropicana Field on Central Avenue. He says he paid more than $225 for each one.
"Any game to the World Series is priceless," Faulkner said.
Todd Mortenson also had no luck finding tickets, until he drove by this same spot as Faulkner.
"I went to the box office this morning, and they said they were sold out," Mortenson said. "And then I saw this guy had tickets, and I said I got to do it -- it's history.
Mortenson, who's going to the game alone, paid a whopping $250 for his ticket.
But while some are willing to pay top dollar to see the game others are not.
Mike Fox flew in from Philadelphia just this morning with some friends. None of them have a ticket, and none of them are planning on paying hundreds to get one. But they say they are determined to get in to the game.
"We're going to get in there because we want to see our fighting Phillies beat Tampa," Fox said.
