BAY AREA (Bay News 9) -- People throughout the Bay area bundled up in sweaters and jackets Tuesday night and Wednesday morning as the coldest temperatures of the fall moved into the area.
A record temperature of 43 degrees was set in Tampa where the previous low for October 29 was 44 degrees, set in 1910. Unofficial records also were set in Lakeland and Bradenton.
Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker said the cold will not last long, however.
"We'll still be below average another night,' Linker said. "Then we will return to more normal temperatures with lows in the 60s and highs in the 70s.'
Also, the Bay area's first snap of the year is weeks earlier than last year.
The first near freezing weather didn't roll into the area in 2007 until November 17.
The low in Brooksville hit 29 degrees.
Guy Sheppard of Brooksville said the chilly air is a welcome break from the heat.
"It's a great change from 90, 95 degrees and humid, you know, and all the rain," Sheppard said.
