NEW PORT RICHEY (Bay News 9) -- On the last weekend before Election Day, Gov. Sarah Palin reiterated the McCain campaign's platform in front of a crowd of supporters in New Port Richey.

The vice presidential candidate took the stage at Sims Park shortly after 9 a.m. Her husband, "First Dude" Todd Palin, and Gov. Charlie Crist were also on the platform with her.

With the economy continuing to occupy the minds of many Americans, Gov. Palin spoke about the economic plans of the McCain campaign, focusing particularly on taxes. Gov. Palin said that, under a McCain administration, Americans would see lower income taxes, and cuts in capital gains taxes and a doubled child tax deduction.

She said that the tax issue is the fundamental difference between the McCain campaign and that of his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama.

Gov. Palin said she and Sen. McCain would "help people afford health care" and "help students afford college."

She also said they planned to institute a spending freeze on "all but the most vital functions of government - our defense budget, taking care of veterans and our seniors."

A McCain administration would balance the federal budget by the end of the first term, Gov. Palin said.

Talk of energy independence and reform were other topics of her discussion, but she also took a few minutes to talk about helping families with children who have special needs.

"Children with special needs have been kind of set apart and excluded for far too long and they've been made to feel that maybe there isn't a road for them and a part in our great country," she said. "This attitude is a disservice to these children and their families and our great country."

She also managed to take a few shots at the Democratic nominee.

"Obama's plan is just for more, bigger government, and doggone it, government is the problem, not the solution," she said.

She also called his tax plan "phony" and said it was "starting to unravel."

Gov. Palin said she wanted to return the power of the government to the American people.

"Remember, it's your government, for the people, of the people, by the people - we'll put it back on your side," she said.

Gov. Palin also spoke later that day in Polk City, at Flight of Fantasy. After that, she will speak in Ocala before leaving Florida for rallies in Raleigh, North Carolina and Glen Allen, Virgina.
