HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Some parents are upset their children's portable classroom at Alafia Elementary lacked heat this week.
"This morning, in my son's portable, you could see your breath," said parent Joy Langone. "Our children were keeping their coats and mittens on this morning to do their work."
Langone says there was no heat in her son's portable classroom Tuesday or Wednesday.
"You have children in this school that have asthma and various reasons why they shouldn't be exposed to 47 degrees in their classroom," she said.
Administrators say they're trying to fix the problem. They told Bay News 9 it's not unusual for portables to have heat or air conditioning issues.
"How can you learn when you're freezing?," asked a parent named Shay. "I wouldn't be able to learn when I'm freezing."
There are 1,000 portables throughout the district. At Alafia, all of their portables had heat except for the one currently being reported on.
