TAMPA (Bay News 9) -- A former USF student who pleaded guilty to supporting terrorism was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday.
Ahmed Mohamed admitted to making a video on how to use a remote-controlled device to set off a bomb and posting the video on the Internet.
Mohamed, 26, agreed to a plea deal in June. Prosecutors agreed to drop six other charges against him, including counts for illegally transporting explosive material and possessing an unregistered destructive device.
He faced up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Another former USF student who was charged in the federal explosive case, Youssef Megahed, 22, will go on trial. Megahed is charged with illegally transporting explosive materials and a destructive device.
