BAY AREA (Bay News 9) -- The cold weather will stick around for part of Wednesday.
Temperatures plummeted overnight, falling into the 30s through the Bay area and into the 20s in some areas of Citrus and Hernando counties.
"We had a frozen start to the day but the sun will be out today,' said Bay News 9 meteorlogist Josh Linker. "And we will have a warming trend with a couple of sunny days until the next front comes in this weekend.'
Some spots in the Bay area briefly dealt with freezing temperatures, Linker said.
Records were set in at least two communities.
Sarasota/Bradenton airport registered a 39 degree reading, breaking the previous record of 41 degrees, set in 1992. Parts of Lakeland, meanwhile, came in at 36 degrees, breaking a 43 degree reading on this day in 1992.
Temperatures overnight included a 29 degree reading in Lecanto, 26 degrees in Brooksville and 34 degrees in Wesley Chapel.
Viewer Dave English sent a photo of his backyard thermometer showing a reading in the 20s in Hernando.
Meanwhile, early-morning readings in Hillsborough and Pinellas saw temperatures in the low and upper 40s, repsectively.
Sunny and warmer weather will round out the week.
