BROOKSVILLE (Bay News 9) -- Wednesday morning's cold weather revealed a chilling discovery at the Clover Leaf mobile home park in Brooksville.
A neighbor found 61-year-old Frank Evans dead next to his golf cart on the edge of a pond.
Evans' ex-wife, Laura Evans, says she came to Florida to pick him up and take him back to Michigan.
According to family members, Evans was going to fly back to Michigan Wednesday and enter rehab for his drinking. All his clothes were laid out on his bed, but he never showed up Tuesday night.
Brooksville police officials say Evans' death appears to be an accident. His ex-wife believes he was drunk when he crashed into the pond during the cold hours of the night.
"The drinking got the best of him," Laura Evans said.
Evans' sister-in-law, Margie Brenneman, said Evan's death is a sad end.
"When he wasn't drinking, you couldn't ask for a better, nicer person than he was," Brenneman said.
Evans had two children and five grandchildren.
Brooksville police say the case is still under investigation. They also say they're waiting for autopsy results to determine if Evans had been drinking and to find out how he died.
