PLANT CITY (Bay News 9) -- The tastes, sights and sounds of the Strawberry Festival have hit Plant City.
Orchestra music filled the air, the Midway opened at noon, but everyone knows this festival is all about the strawberries.
St. Clement's Catholic Church has been part of the strawberry shortcake tradition for 35 years.
At their "make your own shortcake" booth, they talk about the festival's biggest controversy -- whether to use a biscuit or spongecake when creating a strawberry shortcake.
Besides strawberries, another huge draw was Robinson's Racing Pigs. Randy Ross started this tradition at the Strawberry Festival.
"They have a sweet tooth like you wouldn't believe, and they love oreo cookies," Ross said. "So we put an oreo cookie at the end of the racetrack, and they know the first one around it is going to get the cookie."
The Strawberry festival continues through March 9.
