Suspects in St. Pete cop shooting make first appearance

All three suspects are charged with attempted murder on a law enforcement officer and armed robbery. All were denied bond.

ST. PETERSBURG (Bay News 9) -- Three suspects in an armed robbery of a Blockbuster video store during which an undercover officer was shot made their first appearance Thursday.

Danielle Karlau,19, and Joseph Hollings Jr., 18, and Velislav Matzov, 19, are all charged with attempted murder on a law enforcement officer and armed robbery. All were denied bond.

Both Karlau and Hollings appeared in person. Matzov, who was shot in the buttocks by the detective during the incident, is in the hospital and spoke to the judge on the phone.

The detective underwent emergency surgery Thursday morning and is in serious condition. His name is not being released because he is an undercover detective.

The detective and Matzov are at Bayfront Medical Center recovering from their injuries.

Hollings, Matzov and 18-year-old William Jaeger are also charged in connection to an April 15th CVS pharmacy robbery in Pinellas Park.
